You think you are in a duet, then find out you were just the backup singer when the other guy goes solo. This is the story of poor Puff. Jackie and Puff are true friends, until Jackie grows up and decides it's uncool to hang out with dragons (had Jackie grown up when fantasy literature became mainstream, he would never have stopped hanging out with a dragon!).
It is interesting to hear the story of what happens to an abandoned childhood friend, even an imaginary one, from that character's viewpoint. We sort of got that with Bing Bong in the Pixar film Inside Out, but in Puff's story, he's the main character.
