Other Notes
Gorilla is a tragic figure. He is very large and intelligent for his kind. He can fly and talk, yet somehow wound up in a zoo cage. To make things worse, he has fallen in love/lust with a human woman he could never be with. Perhaps this is why he allows himself to stay caged-- what's the point of freedom if you can't be with the one you love?
And why escape if he would spend all his time eluding his captors? That's still not freedom. Also, they have no problem hurting him when capturing him, so in staying free he might have to hurt them, and just can't bring himself to (although of course he could). And again, they outnumber him-- the zookeepers and police and army... Plus, outside, he would have to find food and shelter, and he has those here. Still, he has known freedom and longs to be out, going where and doing what he pleased.
He does have one friend, though, perhaps a primatologist with access to his cage. This person (the singer of the song) sneaks him away at night when he is in town. They go riding in his car with the top down, under the cover of darkness. Then, Gorilla enjoys some freedom, maybe even flying in an empty field, until just before dawn, when he must be returned home to the zoo before he is missed.
Maybe Gorilla gets access to a voice-activated cellphone, and calls the woman he longs for. This could set an interesting plot in motion...
