Other Notes
Justice is what Miles is about. By day, he fights like mad for his law clients, with whom he identifies when they tell him they have been wronged. He feels he has been deeply wronged himself, you see, having been cheated on by his girlfriend.
But it is entirely possible that Miles sees infidelity in every act of hers, whether she is polite to the waiter or tips the taxi driver what he thinks is too much. His overbearing possessiveness becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy; she rebels by cheating as soon as he called on business only 20 miles away.
Desperate to know what she's up to while he is gone, Miles consults a mystic medium, who shows him in her crystal ball that his girlfriend is in fact cheating. But when Miles, enraged at his girlfriend, smashes the ball, its "magic" explodes and engulfs his face and "eyes", leaving him with extreme far-sightedness. He can now literally see the girlfriend and what she is doing.
Confused and unable to control his power, Miles stumbles from the medium's door and into the street. After a few days, he is able to control his power so that he can turn it off and see normally, but he works on it for months until he can extend his visual range some 4,000 miles. Naturally, he can't be walking or driving when he does this. But when he wants to, and if the weather allows, he can see the Taj Mahal from his living room window.
None of this softens his mood, however. Now he can see even MORE injustice in more places.
