Other Notes
Rag Doll is a tragic character. She was possibly abused by her father, although in what way and to what degree is hard to say. He was certainly possessive of her, taught her that her looks were paramount, and fostered her senses of low self-esteem and dependency.
Later, she met a boy who abused her physically
(he narrates this song) and makes her afraid for her life. She broke up with him, but now he stalks her. He claims he is only filming her for a documentary he is making about her abilities and skills to help her career; she's not sure how true this is.
As to those abilities: Rag Doll learned early that her bones were somewhat rubbery and she had the ability to adjust her overall density. These abilities allowed her to move in unique ways. She has been trying all her life to channel her abilities into a dance career, but so far has only made it as far as the strip clubs.
But there, she learned that appearances can lead to actual success, and so has been dressing like she is wealthier than she is (amazing what you can find in thrift stores) and listening to (and starting) rumors. Also, as she "runs hot," she can dress revealingly even when it is cold out. To further her unique look and appearance of wealth, she drives an antique car.
Her troubled past and work in private clubs have given her a reason to find, then easy access to, alcohol. This is also becoming a problem.
Adding to her issues are her mental powers. She can get flashes of other people's dreams, and these visions can make getting close to people difficult, for her and-- if she tells someone she can do this-- for them. She told her boyfriend about his dreams, for instance. Also, being with her tends to make people remember their pasts and see how they are repeating old patterns in their lives. Again, this makes people not want to be around her (no one wants to know the truth about themselves!). In fact, these factors, not her lack of dance skills, is what may be holding her back, career-wise.
Despite her past, and her present obstacles, she is still determined to achieve success in the dance world.
