Other Notes
Imagine what happens next. The narrator here finishes watching the match. Or maybe he sees it's a local meet, and he makes his way there to catch the Tuffy on by the stage door. Maybe he even runs into a convenience store to get her flowers. And let's say he makes it to the arena on time.
Now he's one of many men vying for her attention as she leaves. Several have likely be long-time followers of hers, unlike our man who just saw her for her first time tonight, but not even live.
As much as he is "in love" with her, his chances of ever dating her are slim. Still, now that he is following the derby, he will widen his social circle and maybe meet a female fellow fan with characteristics similar to Tuffy's.
In this way, Tuffy may have truly changed his "bad" life for the better, even though they never met.
