Other Notes
The Finger is called that because it's our only conception of this unfathomably large celestial entity. It pulls Earth along on what we perceive to be a string at unimaginable speed; 19 miles/second, or 67,000 miles/hour (that's 30 km/second, or 110,000 km/hour).
The Finger likes to examine life on Earth and may have to swipe a storm out of the way to see us. From our perspective on the ground, since a rainbow appears in the storm's wake, we perceive the Finger as atop the rainbow.
For all its immense power, the entity preserves humanity for the sake of one human, with whom he's in love. He wants to keep her near, so he pulls all of us along as he races around the Sun. He acknowledges that he'd be "silly" to let the string go and lose her. Now, either his love is immortal... or different people over time he mistakes for the same woman.
Either way, good news for us. Without this pull. the Earth would smash into the Sun or drift into space.
